Founded by Budiman Ong in 2008 due to his passion for modern designs and materials exploration, ONG CEN KUANG creates unique, handcrafted pieces that allow the natural characteristics of the materials to speak for themselves. The designs are timeless and unique, mixing traditional craft with modern components to create items that are full of tales and soul. Based in Bali, Indonesia, each light fixtures is carefully crafted by hand, one at a time.
Crafted using zippers, this enchanting light series embodies the concept of “broken-symmetry.” This collection is the best representation of our mission: handcrafting poetic yet elegant lighting with a twist of unexpected material choices.
Nature’s captivating beauty has deeply intrigued Budiman Ong for over a year. He planted white Bougainvillea around his home, igniting an enduring passion to infuse this fascination into his work.
He aims to transfer the delicate textures, intricate yet controlled chaos seen on petals, free-flowing ripples, and random curves into his products. To achieve this, he’s selected copper, stainless steel, and brass wire as his mediums, believing that crocheting with these materials can emulate the translucency and fragility of Bunga Kertas.
As humans, we are drawn to the soothing allure of repetition, yet flawless repetition can become mundane and foreseeable.
Through the Kentang series, the brand has introduced a subtle disruption in the layers of paper, injecting a dynamic element and distinctive charm. The shapes also pay homage to Noguchi’s lantern curves and the beauty of nature.
Paper, especially handmade, possesses an unmatched ability to diffuse light with a soft and sensory brilliance. Its various natural and man-made densities enhance the interplay of light and shadow.
Collaborating with a local workshop in Bali that made paper from banana fiber, the brand aspires to elevate the richness of light quality using banana fiber, while maintaining a beautifully simple form – a strong full moon.
Drawing inspiration from a traditional hand knitting technique with metal in the island of Sumba, Indonesia, this method has been employed to create traditional wedding accessories for brides. The intricate craftsmanship of hand-knitted wire, with its highly textured appearance, mirrors nature’s delicate yet resilient essence, thus becoming the stepping stone behind this collection.

Metal is the vinyl wallpaper with metallic effect by Tecnografica. Thanks to the silver foil that covers the whole surface, when the light hits the wallpaper it returns incredible iridescent reflections. Metal wallpaper enhances metal colors such as gold, silver and copper, and gives particular brilliance to vibrant, saturated colors.
Moreover, the special embossing with fabric effect makes this finish very elegant and suitable for every environment, both residential and commercial.
