Wallpaper options in Singapore range from cheap paper-based sheets to premium-quality, vinyl wallpaper that can cost up to $500 a roll. The total cost of lining a space with wallpaper will also depend on the wall size and whether the wallpaper was professionally installed.
What Is the Average Cost of Wallpaper in Singapore?
The average cost of wallpaper in Singapore is $50 per square metre (sqm) for standard designs (pre-made patterns and prints). Custom wallpaper can cost up to $100 per sqm.
A typical 4-room HDB flat has a total wall space of 155 sqm covering bedrooms, living room, kitchen and dining areas. Applying standard wallpaper to the home would cost around $7,750. Custom wallpaper design for the same home would cost around $15,500.
Factors That Affect the Cost of Wallpaper
Material Type
Wallpaper comes in three main types of material:
- paper sheets (regular)
- a mix of natural and synthetic fibres (non-woven)
- vinyl-coated paper
Regular wallpaper is the cheapest option, but can also be thin, not durable, and more prone to peeling and bubbling due to humidity.
Non-woven and vinyl wallpaper have a higher upfront cost, but will each be more cost-effective due to longevity. Both non-woven and vinyl wallpaper are highly resistant to moisture retention and can be easily cleaned without tearing or coming loose.
Import Origin
Wallpaper costs differ based on the country of origin – Korean wallpaper tends to be the most affordable due to lower shipping costs and larger-sized rolls (1.06m width). Wallpaper from European countries like Germany and Italy is generally more expensive.
When comparing the cost of wallpaper between different designs, consider the country of origin and manufacture. In some cases, wallpaper can be designed in one country, but produced in another at a lower quality. In our experience, wallpaper designed and manufactured in the same country tends to have a better and more consistent quality.
Standard vs Custom Design
Standard wallpaper with pre-designed prints is much cheaper than ordering a custom-print or wallpaper mural.
Standard wallpaper comes in a variety of options – some of the most popular options include textured wallpaper, marble wallpaper, and vintage wallpaper designs. At Craft Axis, our collection includes over 3,600 wallpaper designs – and if you somehow aren’t able to find one you like, custom wallpaper is always an option.
Wall Size
The cost of wallpaper will increase with the required wall coverage. Not every wall in your space needs to be covered in wallpaper – having a single wide wall with a mural wallpaper can achieve a beautiful backdrop for the space.
If you have a budget to stick to, we recommend focusing on key areas like the living room, bedrooms, kitchen, dining room, and bathrooms, in that order of priority.
Installation Services
The cost of wallpaper may or may not include professional installation – most suppliers list installation services as a separate add-on. Professional wallpaper installation can cost between $200 to $800 per room, depending on the size of the space and the complexity of the design.
To maximise the lifespan of your wallpaper, leave the wallpaper installation to the professionals. DIY wallpaper installation will usually result in a subpar result if you lack the experience and equipment.
